Title: Oversize Octagonal footed Rummer
Post by: thewingedsphinx on September 02, 2022, 07:26:02 PM
Hi, would anyone know why this unusual Rummer shape glass would have such a large octagonal foot.
18cm high with a 9cm foot.
I think it’s date would be around 1820 it has debri in the glass and striation lines and polished spun Pontil.
Why would you need such a wide foot? Perhaps it could be used onboard a ship so wouldn’t fall over or perhaps had a lid? Any opinions welcome thanks very much. Mike

Re the foot shape, I'd guess it was originally round. Damaged/chipped at some stage, so then cut to the current shape to remove the damaged areas?
