Title: Uranium Wine Glass
Post by: NevB on October 21, 2022, 09:10:38 AM
This is a large wine glass/goblet, 7" tall, 3 1/4"across the rim and 3 1/4" foot, in a mint/teal green colour. It has a petal cut bowl and a cut stem with an onion shaped bubble inside. It has a small ground pontil and lots of wear on the foot. There is some crizzling? in the bubble which I've been told was caused by the glassblower's breath, but I'm not sure if that's true. I think it's from around 1830-40 and possibly Webb Richardson. Density is about 2.6gms/cc.

Nice glass. 1830-1840 would be very early for uranium glass wouldn’t it, I think it’s probably a bit later. There’s a similar clear glass here with speculation about blower’s breath in the bubble :) https://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,69160.msg385284.html#msg385284

Thanks Ekimp, it might be later than 1830-40 but not much later. I think it's possible uranium glass was being produced around that time. As for the breath in the bubble I'd need to see the science behind it to see if it's possible.
