Post by: Birkyc on February 13, 2023, 07:06:08 PM
Hi,
can anyone help me to identify this vase please, just about exhausted my resources and drawn a blank so far.

Pentagonal in shape (both vase and plinth).
Vase approx 23.5cm in diameter at rim, 10.5cm tall, base sides 8cm long.
Black glass plinth marked 9593, 4cm tall, 12cm side lengths at base.
Assemble height 14cm.

Thank you in anticipation.

Sowerby, from the 2593 suite. You can see the shape illustrated in Sowerby’s Illustrated List 32 from 1938, available on Mike Tonkin’s excellent site:

Specifically yours looks to be the 5/2593 (5 for five-sided, there were also some shapes in this range with six sides and catalogued as 6/2593) Salad Bowl. Catalogue describes it as ‘flanged’ and notes that a plinth was available.
