Almost 10 inches tall, moulded base with 3 vertical cuts through to the red, not done a lot of research yet, only just got back but wanted to post this before nosh time ! ;D ;D
-
I've been looking carefully at the bottom part of this - I think it is a combination of the photo angle, the neatness of the detail of the cutting and the slightly higgledepigglety background that makes it appear squint. But it's not. 8)
The red is a very orangey one, and it makes my guts think Japan. But that's probably only wind. ;D

Polish. Sorry Sue. I am 99% sure anyway ;D
I have two of these 2 layer opaque glass vases at the moment, both in a white and brown combination, one is a cylinder vase like yours Keith with vertical cuts the other low and wide with circular cuts. The second has a made in Poland label and possibly a second label too but I won't be able to get any photos until tomorrow.
Come to think of it, a while back I sold a large red and white vase along similar lines that was also Polish, I might be able to get the owner to sort some photos too.

No need to apologise - I did suspect it was just wind and it was based entirely on the orangeyness of the red - not on style or anything else.
I'm curious about Polish Glass and we don't know nearly enough about it.
-
Thanks Sue, John, an interesting piece, L quite like this one. ;D
-
These two have LSA labels, I had forgotten about the white on clear vase.
-
The cylinder vase turns out to be white on amethyst rather than white on brown. No label on the cylinder though but after handling them all it felt consistent.

I've got a Polish glass bucket, brand name is Portmeirion. The name of the range is Monowave.
It has a Bridget Riley kind of pattern in thin black overlay, acid cut back to thick clear, with a thin white liner.
The rim is polished, no bevels. The clear sections and the inner sides of the black squiggles are quite rough - I can file my nails on them. The black is all smooth and shiny.
I still have the label, it says Made in Poland on the other side. Sorry about the lack of quality of the pics. It is a big thing. Wastepaper basket sized.
-
That would give me a headache ;D
-
I did provide the Bridget Riley warning. ;D
It's fine sitting next to the loo in my en suite. It doesn't stick out too much. White is the proper colour for bathrooms.
It is just more evidence of this kind of design coming from Poland, marketed under a different brand name or importer's name.
This bit, I think, could be evidence that Portmeirion were maybe not too fussy about the quality of finish.
I wondered about the other pieces shown in this thread - how much work has been done on finishing a piece off. How neat and tidy are the sides of the raised parts?
-
Mine is quite well finished but the red in vertical grooves is unpolished giving it a frosted look.
-
I thought I could see some bevelling in the white in yours, Keith. Is that rough on the tiny upright sides? The tiny upright sides of the black on mine are rough, and there is no bevelling whatsoever.
-
Apart from the red stripes all is polished with bevelled edges.
-
A much better finish than my bucket, as I suspected. 8)
