Title: Antique Highly Engraved Lead Crystal Carafe???
Post by: LEGSY on April 03, 2023, 02:43:26 PM
Picked this up from a junk shop remember those lovely places
which are a dying thing these days sadly. I didn't give a lot for
it as it had a label that said vase so that was good for me i wondered
if anyone would have an idea what sort of age that it might be?
I can add it has a really good thickness and weight for its size
it is similar to a Mell carafe in size and shape yet weighs slightly
more than 1500g and has a lovely floral polished pontil scar.

it is either cut glass or pressed glass imitating cut glass. hold it to the light to see if it refracts. if so, it is either antique cut glass or crystal. if it does not refract light, look for seams.

This is probably a bedside carafe that originally had a tumbler that fit upside down on top to prevent dust settling on the water.

The rings on the neck look similar to the Bart pattern by S&W, just wondering if there might be a connection.
