Title: Red, orange and yellow ombre tall pitcher help to ID please

Hello,

I have been given this piece of glass a few years ago.  I am in Australia, a place called Harvey, Western Australia and it does have a big Italian heritage.

I don't know anything about this piece except the following:
-it is not very thick glass, there appears to be no seam lines and no mark or signature
-approx 42cm tall / 16.5inches
-weighs 1395 grams / 1.39kg
-only the handle and base are completely clear
-red, orange, yellow ombre gradient
-tiny white colour where handle attaches to jug (image 3)

I have attached photos but can add anything else you may need.  I feel like it might be hand made but not sure if it's actually Italian glass or some type of mass produced item?

Welcome to the glass message board Penny.

Your pitcher could well be Italian, it may be from the Empoli region where there were a number of manufacturers producing similar wares. There are some other possibilities too for companies that made colour changing heatstruck glass like yours but maybe not quite as good a bet. They include LE Smith an American maker and a couple of Polish companies, Tarniowiec and Zbigniew Horbowy. If you google the names you will be able to find examples but I reckon the shape of yours points more towards Empoli.

Hi John,

Thanks for the welcome and the reply.  I also thought the shape was similar to some Empoli that I saw on the web but I just can't find any others with the same colours.  You mentioned colour changing heatstruck glass, I tried to google this but still not finding much.  Is there a particular term for this type of colour?  I keep seeing Amberina but those are clear where mine isn't.

Heatstruck refers to the fact that a colour will change, depending on how much heat it is exposed to. It's a fairly delicate process and each piece made will not neccessarily have the same amount and proportions of the different colours, which explains the difference between yours and the one in the link you found.
