Title: “Faux”-rano?
Post by: Kozmotron on June 12, 2023, 06:42:48 PM
I’ve recently acquired 3 very large pieces of glass, one of which, a horse head, is obviously inspired by the Murano style, but lacks the sophistication.
Another piece, shaped like a shell (or let’s be honest, more like a bedpan!), is listed on eBay as “Murano Fratelli Toso,” And I can’t see why the seller is so sure about its origin. I’m attaching a photo of the piece I have, which is nearly identical to the one on eBay.
It is not signed and has three feet.

Welcome to the message board.

Feet would generally be unusual on a bowl like this, a photo of the underside would be useful, how big is it? Perhaps they were needed for stability. My first thought seeing your photo is Fratelli Toso too, the shape etc would be consistent.

Thank you so much! It seems like every large piece of glass gets labeled “Murano,” so I started assuming everything I run into is only inspired by it. I have a lot to learn.
I am away from the piece so I can’t get a a picture up of the feet at the moment. The piece is huge. It is the size of a bedpan. I honestly thought that’s what it was when I first saw it.
