Title: Can micromesh polish clouded lead crystal?
Post by: shinypebbles on June 13, 2023, 05:33:26 AM
Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but does anyone know if micromesh can be used to repair lead crystal?

I have a Harbridge vase that I got unexpectedly as part of a set of glass, but after the limescale and watermarks came away with vinegar and lemon juice it revealed very fine scratches underneath. There are a few sites saying polishing with micromesh can fix this but I don't want to risk damaging the vase more.

I don't imagine that they'd be hard enough or fine enough.

It might be a bit of elbow grease, but I'd use a slurry of cerium oxide and water, and if the inside of the vase is accessible (presumably it is if you were considering pads), a sponge or fine cloth to rub it against the sides.
