Found this piece today in a small shop in a corner i think it is quite a unique thing
and looks like Monart ? type glass on a metal base quite nice and decorative piece.
The thickness of the glass is decent and looks nice quality would love to hear any ideas.
It stands 6.5" tall.

It does look like old and quality glass, but I really do not think that's a Monart colourway. Perhaps Schneider or something related to something like Webb's agate flambe?
Which kind of makes me suspect a marriage with the metalwork, to save it.
But I could be barking up something that doesn't even resemble the wrong tree. :-[

I would not have left that sitting on a shelf. I'd have bought it because it's gorgeous and because I could find out later what it is. It wouldn't matter if it took years. Even if it is a marriage, it was a piece worth saving and it will bring you pleasure whenever you look at it. :)
We just need somebody who knows more about this kind of glass than we do.
There can't be too many contenders. I think it pre-dates the studio glass movement, but has many of the features that define studio glass. Very few glassmakers fit into that sort of category - Monart being one.
Nigel Benson gave a talk on this very subject at the Edinburgh Conference.
The studio glass movement has a very specific starting date. The 23rd of March 1963, when the Toledo lecture was given announcing the development of the small kiln for the use of individual artists and the finding of a suitable metal to melt in small batches. So these older individually worked unique pieces cannot be called studio glass, but do have a great deal in common with it.

It does look very similar to the Steuben Moss Agate lamp Sue however, as is always the case with not enough online photographs available from different angles, I couldn't see any bubbles in that linked lamp.
Might need a bit more investigation/confirmation to be doubly sure :) but perhaps the nearest in the decor of all the Agate type older glasses?

Absolutely.
I think "agate" is about the most useful search term we have as a well-grounded starting point, followed by moss being a much better descriptive than flambe.
Which is about the limit of my knowledge. Time for me to bow out and learn. :)

Fab sleuthing reminds me of one of those famous 80's i think
police shows on the T.V. where they get to the bottom of the case
in front of them shame we do not have right thinking folks in our
GOVERNments and bodies in the UK any longer ;D
