Title: Black pressed glass match strike or desk top object.
Post by: Anne E.B. on July 28, 2023, 01:29:29 PM
Any ideas what this is please.  Is it a match strike with its corrugated sides and recess top.  Or is it a desk object used  to hold a sponge or a small roller with water, so that it can be used for stamps.  I remember banks and offices using that kind of thing many years ago for wetting fingers when counting bank notes/sorting through papers and may be the corrugated sides are just decorative?  Unfortunately it isn't marked, and searches online and in books haven't brought up anything like it.  It measures 3.5" at its widest x 3" x 1.5" high with a concave top that's about 0.5" deep.
TIA :)

I read your title and saw the object and I thought is was for a wetting roller. It was only after that I read you suggest the same thing.  :)
I remember needing one frequently around December.  ::)
