Title: Blue bud vase
Post by: bat20 on November 19, 2023, 03:48:24 PM
Hi all , I came across this vase and something about the base captured my interest ,it’s not one I can remember seeing before .It has a flat polished outer ring (with a lot of wear )and a sort of moulded look centre ,it’s a fairly dense Matt blue with some opal blue patches on it’s shoulder .When I first saw it I thought it was ceramic and with a very well copied sung type shape ….ring a bell with anyone ?, thanks .

My guess: Chinese 'Peking glass'. Very hard to date, but maybe early 20th century (Late Qing to Republic era).

Thanks Steven,i had Chinese in my mind but I haven’t looked into their glass of that period before. There are quite a few inclusions and the chun type effect in places is interesting ,I like it .

Here’s a better picture of the base.
