Title: Asking for help with two Bicolour pieces (vase and bowl)
Post by: Shinyglass on November 24, 2023, 09:13:48 PM
I got these a while ago, and while I was told by the seller the vase was possibly Bohemia glass, I have no information on the bowl. Density checks that they are both low lead crystal, but that might be the effect of the colourant. Neither have maker's marks.

Vase: Flower pattern,
10cm/ 4 inches high
7cm/2 3/4 in across mouth
4cm/ 1/2in across base.

Bowl: Geometric cut
12cm / 4 3/4 in at widest diameter
8cm / 3in high

Any information would be very helpful.

I would think Bohemian/German cut to clear glass. You will probably find it difficult to pin down a maker but Josephinenhutte might be a possibility. There are similar ones in these catalogues:

Looks recent, possibly by Ajka of Hungary.

I had wondered about that, but I don't think so. The bowl does look superficially like the Araglin range, but the cuts round the rim don't match. Also I've compared the bowl to a vase of theirs and the division between red and clear is sharper on the Ajka. I'll have another look through their catalogues and see if I get a match.

The ovals round the rim and the slight blurring between colours looks more like the Bohemian or Czech glass I've seen.

It might also be worth looking through Caesar Crystal here:

If they aren't from here, it's still worth having a look through as they have a vast catalogue of products, so a good comparison of new to old pieces.

Photos of the bottoms might help to show how much age wear they have.

Here are some shots of the bases. In general there's very light surface scratching, more on the bowl than the vase.
