Title: Ruby bowl age??

Hi , this is my last find over the Xmas period which has been a bit of a puzzle ,it’s  7” high and 4”tall .It has a slightly pushed up base and a polished pontil with a lot of wear . I picked it up thinking vintage but I’m not so sure ?, ..it’s heavy for its size with a lot of air bubbles which you can feel on the inside , but not on the outside and I don’t think they are there as a feature ?There is no ring when flicked .Any thoughts many thanks (air bubbles on inside photo 2)

I thought it may be a good idea to give an image of where it is on the red range , next to it is a whitefriars red .

It’s obviously 7” wide and 4 “ height !!?

  The bowl looks very gold ruby. The juxtaposition with the wave ribbed [?] Whitefriars  piece is interesting. The difference in color profile noticeable. The bowl being probably non- lead you would think Bohemian.

  Forgot the original question as to age. whoops. . I would guess a lesser glassworks [bubbles] cashing in on the cranberry color craze c.1900, or maybe a second.

Hi Cagney ,could be ?,the shape does remind me a bit of some regancy coloured finger bowls…it is bigger than them though.

Hi Keith , would be nice ?,finding Ruby glass from that time in England doesn’t appear that easy though?.There were making Ruby flint glass in Birmingham as early as the mid 18th and I guess you really would expect a broken pontil from that period, but here’s an interesting read anyway no matter what this piece turns out to be,….a very interesting rabbit hole  ;D

  Generally, a finger bowl measures approximately 4 1/2" w. x 3 1/2" h. Give or take some fraction thereof  + or -. Is it simply a 7" serving bowl for whatever?
  Photo is an example of light dependent gradation of gold ruby color.

Thanks Cagney , interesting piece .I’ve got one piece of bohemian cut Ruby glass I use as a soap dish , it’s a rich red and slightly matte .
