Title: Cut glass jar and lid
Post by: Keith Mick on June 09, 2024, 03:31:41 PM
Hi, can anyone help with an ID on this jar or urn. It's panel cut both on the lid and jar with paired cross cuts at intervals. The lid has a cut out presumably for a spoon suggesting perhaps use as a preserve jar. However no attempt has been made to clean up this cut out making me wonder if it happened later in the jars life. There's a fair bit of wear to the base although the jar and lid are in pretty good condition. It's just under 8" around 20cm tall to the top of the finial and the glass seems to have a very slight yellow tint. The foot is petal cut and the whole thing is nicely made.
Cheers,
Keith

The foot resembles the Biedermeier style, so possibly 19thC. Bohemian/German/Austrian.
