Title: Czech? German? Amber vase with red streaks and gold flecks, c.1920
Post by: Cranesbill on August 17, 2024, 11:01:12 AM
I've had this vase a little while, and I'm still stumped. I'm not even sure I like it, but it does intrigue me!

I think I can rule out WMF Ikora (I have the book, and several bits) and the type of glass currently attributed to Hantich. It doesn't resemble any Ysart shape I've seen. Do any of you knowledgable people have any clues?

A reverse image search on Google brought up just one other piece of exactly the same type of glass and decorative treatment, in a different vase shape. The link was to The Saleroom online auction platform, but it no longer works, so no luck there.

Dimensions: 18 cm high x 13.5 cm top rim diameter x 8 cm foot diameter.

There have a been a few of these on the board.
I also believe they are linked to an amber vase I own with green random streaks in it because of the merese, the way the base is finished and the pontil mark and the general heft/weight of the design and glass.
I'll try and find a thread for you where there should be other items for comparison.

This is I think from the same range as yours:

It is still unidentified and there are links on that link to other threads.

I'll try and find the amber and green streak ones so you can see those.

This is one of the green streaked amber vases I think they are linked to:

Flying Free, many thanks indeed for all those fascinating links. I've had a quick read now and will come back to them later. Great to read an interesting discussion continuing over so many years - along with all the accompanying pics - even if attribution is still uncertain.

I find the pink versions rather appealing, even though I don't normally 'do' pink!

The pink versions are gorgeous.  Unfortunately I've never found one.

Apparently identified as likely to be by Kralik here on Craig's post:

Thank you again.

If I have time later today, I'll re-size my photos so the details are a little clearer. I tend to be a bit cautious with my editing for GMB to ensure the pics will appear.
