Title: bubble infested bowl.
Post by: Paul S. on September 14, 2024, 03:01:51 PM
reminds me of Walsh 'Pompeian' or even Nazeing, though less so perhaps.     In profile, the bowl shape is like Bagley's elf posy vase with the central cavity and distinctive rather late 'deco' shape  -  in fact I don't think it's either really, but those might give a good idea of the bubbled effect, and shape.
About 6 cms. high and c. 24 cms. max. diameter.            I forgot to photograph the pontil area  -  it's been ground out but lacks finesse and has been left matt, and there's enough wear to take it back to 1930 - 1950 possibly.       thanks for looking and all suggestions appreciated.

Nazeing maybe?

thanks for taking a look Steven  -  that did cross my mind though I dismissed the possibility as here the glass lacks any of the milky appearance of Nazeing, though the bubbles are probably o.k., and possibly the shape too.
Very unfortunately I no longer have my Nazeing book so rather in the dark  -  perhaps if someone has the book they might have a look for me. :)

I don't think Nazeing is very likely either, but not because of the colour. Their bubbly range was coloured in the pot without the addition of white enamel. The bubbling had a different characteristic to your bowl though, being quite lacy in appearance in imitation of similar Monart pieces.

The shape is also a problem, as you suggest. I've looked through the Nazeing book and can't find this one. Their designs were a bit softer and less angular. The book isn't definitive though, since many archives were lost in the factory fire.

thanks for looking in the book.     I've had a number of pieces of Nazeing over the years although they've now all gone, but from memory none had this clear colour to the glass.        I think the bubbles here are too uniformly stretched  -  again, from memory, Nazeing bubbles are more irregular.        Must be patient - hopefully in time someone may recognize this one.

A photo showing the bubbles and coloured spots in a bit more detail might be helpful.

here then is my effort at showing the base colour of the glass (clear), plus bubble appearance, and the matt pontil  -  plus amount of wear on the outer edge of the foot.               May or may not of course be helpful. :)
