Title: Flint glass decanter?
Post by: Seanynicks on December 24, 2024, 11:32:49 AM
Hi again, I have a ribbed glass decanter possibly from Pittsburgh flint glass company with no identification marks. The glass has lots of imperfections and contains a few white flecks that shouldn't be there. Is this silica and can I use it to help identify it? Google doesn't have an image of it and I haven't seen another.

If you have no luck here you could try the love decanters website.https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjmrtfV1MCKAxUHZ0EAHR4oD_4QFnoECAoQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fchannel%2FUCKihOTet9RtHYm3gXpC2X9Q&usg=AOvVaw0k316904GbbUnN56FyCHZi&opi=89978449

Pictures and dimensions would help with ID'ing. As you are in the UK, US glass is less likely unless it's from one of the big companies

The white specks more than likely bits of the clay pot that the glass is melted in. Flint [lead] glass somewhat  harsher on the pots than non-lead. Not uncommon in early lead glass. I have seen it in Heisey's lead glass c. 1930 as well.

Hi, thanks for the responses. I'm not to good with the tech yet for photos and uploads but the love decanter link from essi looks like a good shout so will probably send him an email. Thanks again 👍
