Title: French glass cup & salt and porcelain go with c. 1840
Post by: cagney on June 21, 2025, 10:20:56 AM
The handled cup can be found in the Luaney & Hautin et Cie catalog of 1840 planche 31 no. 1486. Large polished pontil as the French seem to always do. Pedestal open salt in planche 17 no.1238 of the same catalog. A very nice line drawing can be had herehttps://opensalts.us/References/Books/NealBook/RP34W.jpg (https://opensalts.us/References/Books/NealBook/RP34W.jpg) taken from the book "Pressed Glass Salt Dishes of the Lacy Period 1825-1850" [ copyright not renewed= public domain]. The porcelain sugar bowl is a marked Meissen piece patterned after the French glass version in the above named catalog planche18 no.1210. Glass version pictured here https://glasscollection.cmog.org/search/2006.3.55 (https://glasscollection.cmog.org/search/2006.3.55) Meissen porcelain in American and European glass patterns well documented  by Jouchim Kunze in the Glass Club Bulletin no. 153, NEAG [ National Early American Glass Club]  from 1987.

All three pieces purchased in a small antique shop one state north of my state while on vacation recently. Always on the lookout for the early stuff.

I have the cup - and the saucer. An ebayer was selling them across 2 lots and I thought they must not be separated so I ended up buying both lots.

The flower ornament between the leaf  & scrolls a bit different than my cup, otherwise virtually the same. Very nice.
Another Meissen piece in an American glass motif "peacock eye".

Fabulous!  It's fantastic to see the Launay Hautin designs in real life.  Thanks for sharing :)
