Post by: dreamticket2 on September 29, 2006, 07:26:17 PM
This matchstriker has a concave base with an etched makers mark.
Difficult to photograph- 'Made in England' surrounding a figure  ? glass blowing or  furnace.

Sorry to bump this back up.
Did Whitefriars make matchstrikers?
The base is concave between the flat rim  and I find it difficult to photograph.
Did Whitefriars mark have a monklike figure glass blowing centred with 'Made in England' surrounding- or is my imagination working overtime.
I cannot find information about their backstamps on the Whitefriars site and my attempts to join up failed!!!

Whitefriars.com has a page of labels and marks here:
http://www.whitefriars.com/labels - I cannot help you with whether your piece is Whitefriars or not though, perhaps one of the W/f folks on the board can offer more info.

Thank you Anne.

I will have to try to get on their board again.
