Hi Everyone!
Received this bowl a few weeks back.
I wanted to see what everyone thinks about it, since it is not signed.
Its pretty massive, at 12 1/2" x 12" x 12" x 4 1/4" high

I'm pretty sure it's not Venini since I've never come across a Venini piece where the the cutting doesn't run around the item. I did have a smaller similar shape piece a few years back with a Barbini signature but have never come across another. Whats it like for wear as I know there are a number of the newer studios now doing both inciso and battuto work.

The bottom has wear to it, with deep scratches, and looks to have been used maybe to float candles in it.

Hi again Paul,
Any websites for the newer studios?
I have seen, an have bought by mistake, some of the newer pieces, both Battuto and Inciso (last year). I have to say that the glass used for those pieces is totally different than any Italian glass I have held in my hands. They almost feel puffy, if there is such a thing. I cant explain it another way. The glass doesnt seen that solid or hard, and you can see they were first mold made.
This piece that I bought is really massive, increadibly heavy and thick with a nicely finished top rim.
..... oh, just checked and did see some Venini pieces with vertical inciso decoration done by Thomas Streans (c. 1961)

Hi,
I've had Venini inciso pieces with the lines running horizontally, and I've had them running vertically. That said, this definitely doesn't look like Venini. I'd say Alfredo Barbini, as they did incisos as well. I think there's one pictured in the Sotheby's catalogue of the Hal Meltzer collection.
I REALLY like this bowl!

Hi Laura!
Thanks for that. I totally forgot to look in that catalogue, which I bought from you actually, lol. You are right, its there, but in a round shape. Looks like the same color too.
Guess its time to review all the books again.

p.s. It figures that even unconsiously I would buy a Barbini piece, lol
