Two similar designs:
http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-3554
Thick heavy glass.
Purple vase: 188 mm tall, 98 mm rim diameter
Dark red vase: 398 mm tall, 108 mm rim diameter.
No signatures.
Flat ground rims.
Unground bases with ring marks - shallow, not pronounced.
I've seen these described as Riihimaki before, but I can't find any supporting evidence.
Anyone have any idea of the designer?
TIA
Chris

I often see these - or something similar to these - described as Iittala glass.
I have something similar but not the same in some ways. It has a flat rim like yours.

Don't ask me why, but, I have a "Quasimodo" that mine is Caithness. But it's only a hunch.

I am disinclined to believe these are Finnish - I'd sooner place them in Sweden, Germany or Japan. Until someone with certainties comes by, of course.

This is another similar one attributed to Tapio Wirkkala.

Chris, I have two - they're very similar to each other but not exactly the same and are like yours as opposed to Tony's one which has a clear base. I have one in my shop and I'll admit very lazily attributed to Riihimaki (whoops!) - the other one isn't yet listed but from memory has an Iittala label on it and some initials to the base. I'll endeavour to get them both photographed together and up on here for comparative purposes next week (when my daughter is back at school).

I have one here in smoky blue
Height 24.5 cm
Diameter 10 cm
Base diameter 8 cm
Bottom not ground flat but finished with a dimple - best described as an inverted pontil mark.
I think it is a Wirkkala done by Iittala, as per link Designlasi.
Quite possible that other works made similar vases. "Rings"to the bottom would suggest a turning mould with a flat bottom - which would be a simplified version of the Iittala vase.
