Looks, feels and smells Italian but that's all I can tell. 9 1/2 inches wide and 8 inches wide.

Hi, I had one of these (now sold) which was identical but in green and had an old red and gold foil 'Made in Italy' sticker on it. That's as much as I know unfortunately but these have been discussed in here before ... click link below

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320042335238&fromMakeTrack=true
It has a label on it that says "S.t.e.l.v.i.a. Made in Italy Opalina Florentina"

Regarding the thread vase - the red is wonderfully vibrant. It even has a nifty, stylized North African look to it. A gorgeous work overall. Where did you find it?

It's been collecting dust on one of my shelves for a while..I can't remember where I purchased it :( It looks better in the picture..there's an inch long bubble in the neck and a few stress cracks in the neck...if you want it I'd be willing to sell it for a very cheeeeeeep price! 8)
