I have had this a while - then I was just in Venice this weekend and saw two very similar things - but 'buckets' not jugs (i.e. no handles or pouring lips), claiming to be Venetian 40s or 50s. Does that seem likely?
It is dark amber glass, but the base is vary pale brown glass, with the pontil break polished out to a shallow dimple then a tiny deeper middle dimple. It's 7.5 inches high, with the handle elbow folded over quite a sharp rod.

One possible solution to identification problems, especially when traveling to Venice/Murano, is to take good photographs of the items you think - or know - are Murano/Italian that you want ID'd or specifically named. Bring the photos along on your trip and look in shops for something similar or show them to some of the furnace sueprvisors. Also, you can certainly bring the photographs to the Glass Museum on Murano and show them to the staff or make comparisons within the exhibits.
