Title: Another Dino Martens Question
Post by: horochar on October 26, 2006, 12:19:23 AM
Dan Ripley states this vase was designed by Dino Martens, at least in his upcoming, October 29th Antiquehelper auction (see current eBay listing).  I've seen it previously described as "attributed to" Dino Martens or with no attribution to a designer.  Has some new information come to light?  Whatever it is, I'm happy to own it.  Reminds me of a big candy cane.
Thanks,
Charles.

Hi Charles,
The vase is pictured on the Fratelli Toso book, not the Dino Martens book.
Not sure why they are saying it's Martens on the auction.
There are 2 versions of the vase that I've seen so far (im sure there are more). One with 2 bands, like yours, making an x, and 1 with a thinner bands that wraps around more times, like a candy cane.

Definitely Fratelli Toso. I've seen it with a factory label. Also, FT used that round blue import sticker quite a lot. Pina misidentified it as Martens in one of her earlier books, and for some reason the misattribution sticked.
