Hi, I'm thinking of getting this bowl - it's huge, about 40 cm by 30 cm (16"x12").
Any ideas on maker? At first I thought Dino Martens but then thought maybe not.

Looks like an Avem piece, but what is that underneath it?

I asked the seller for a photo - she said her camera couldn't get a good shot, said it was a small red background sticker with gold border and the text made in italy and murano. Size about 1,5 cm across.
From her description and looking at the glass label library it could be a generic label or an Archimede Seguso label. I'm assuming all Avem labels have the Avem on top?
What would be the value of this thing if it's AS or Avem (possibly Dino M for A)?
Thanks for the pointer to Avem, even if this is not I learn more about Avems :D

I have to say I have a problem with that.
You are taking someone elses photos, posting them here, and based on our collective information deciding wheather to buy a piece or not?
Have you done that with your other posts too?
Personaly I dont think that is fare to the seller, or us.
Others on here might dissagree, which is fine, but I always go on the assumption that pieces and photos posted here are from items already in your possession.

So I presumed at once that he hadn't bought it yet!
I think it looks very like a small bowl I have which I was told was AVEM. It even has the same canes in as mine. I vote for AVEM!

still, its just something I dont like to see on here.
I know many people have done it in the past and i've mentioned it before.
if we accepted that for every person, then everyone would be posting listings from Ebay wanting to know how much they should bid, and how much they could resell for. Would have Auction house "preview day" pictures, and have the persons wait on our confirmation on attribution or how much a piece is worth before even buying a piece?
Basicaly we would be making someones every decision and we would be taking care of their business if they wanted to, without effort or risk?
You know how this could get very out of hand.

You know, value is always very subjective. Nobody wants to pay too much, but on the other hand some people are always looking for a quick profit. More often than not, people just want a little reassurance that something they like the look of is not going to be laughed at by their friends!
Some questions on value come from people who just want a little confirmation that they are getting a good deal on something that they love and will never sell.
The other day someone posted: "I just bought these on ebay. Can you tell me what they are worth?" I'm sure I'm not the only person who felt like saying: "you've just bought them...so you know the value!".
Not everybody likes everything and there will be many who don't like this dish, but if you like it and can afford the asking price, then buy it! It will probably give you a lot of pleasure. :D

Hi, I apologise for my transgression - I should have linked to the page
the pictures are on, in my eagerness I had a lapse in etiquette.
I have just recently found this board along with a resurrection of my glass interest and I probably get a little carried away.
When asking for help with a piece that I'm considering it is with the intention of buying it for myself, and hoping that I won't overpay too much. As a novice collector I'm going to overpay quite a few times,
I can only hope to avoid many huge hits.
Some I will probably sell as time goes by and my collection takes
a turn or the house gets too full, but this is not something I'm doing as part of a business.
I try hard to identify a piece on my own using ebay and the many websites dedicated to glass, but I come up short sometimes.
I love murano glass, and I hope to learn a lot about it as I go along,
for now I know only a little about glass other than Norwegian.
I have ordered books on paperweights and thinking of getting Pina's book.
I read the thread that DenCill pointed to and I realise that I have been
a bit overeager in my requestes for help, I have the utmost respect for
the knowledge that members of this board posess and share and I
hope to be able to share in return. I am working on putting up a gallery
of the glass I have that I do know the makers and designers of along with signatures, it will be mostly Norwegian glass.
I hope I have not overstayed my welcome by posting too many requests
in a short time. It was thoughtlessness on my part.
As to the bowl, svazzo's pointer to Avem was just the pointer I needed
to figure out the rest for myself.

Not a problem, as I'm sure in time you will contribute your own thoughts on any item raised for discussion. It is understandable when you are collecting not to be caught out by the many pitfalls, so don't be concerned about asking.

Hang on! The more requests the better. Everybody learns a lot from id requests, because if someone posts a picture that they can't id, the chances are that there will be loads of people who also won't know it. Then if someone gives an id, we all learn. It also tests the mind and memory! That's part of the fun.

That's correct. Would eBay want the responsibility of any dodgy images?
