Title: Scandi "Jacket" Bottle (?)
Post by: horochar on November 04, 2006, 01:18:50 PM
Wondering who made this bottle and when.  Has a smoke glass "jacket" over clear.  Nice effect, in my opinion.  Looks Nordic to me, but that's just a guess.  Any clues would be appreciated.

the correct term is "half post" bottle. Nordic would be a correct assumption - even if this is not an exclusive technique. It could be anyone - Holmegaard did a lot of half-post bottles, but so did Reijmyre, Johansfors, Hadeland, Plus and others. The colour for some reason looks Norwegian.  Check the inside neck for a missing stopper, if there isn't any it may have had a cork&coin stopper.  Assuming the pontil mark is ground out properly?

Thanks Ivo-
The inside of top is not ground, so it probably started out life with a cork.  Here is a picture of the bottom, in the hope it will help with an attribution.
