Title: Royal Sweden Crystal ............. (FM Marcolin)
Post by: inca on November 15, 2006, 01:25:05 AM
Hi,

Any collectors of Royal Sweden Crystal on this forum?

I collect FM Konstglas Ronneby / Marcolin.

FM has used several different labels with FM Konstglas, FM Marcolin and
Marcolin.
please see topic "Books about FM Konstglas Ronneby Sweden" (page 2)
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,7818.0.html

They have also used the label Royal Sweden Crystal.

This can be seen in a catalogue from FM Marcolin Art Crystal, 1980's
catalogue. In this catalogue these two different labels are shown side by side:
"FM Art Crystal Studio Line Ronneby Sweden" and "Royal Sweden Crystal"

Does anyone have any more information about this label Royal Sweden Crystal?
Someone suggested it was used for a specific market Germany ?

Thanks!

Ingela

Hi Ingela

I can tell you for sure that the word "royal Sweden Crystal" does not occur in the 1990 catalogue or in the 8/87 supplement - so it must have been a passing phase.

I would not be surprised, though, if the brothers used labels for bought  pieces which they sold under their own name. I suspect the tiger may be Barovier, the Christmas trees Barbini, the elephant VSL (Linda de Sousa) and the crystal swords Sardinia.  The horse's head looks familiar too.....  and it is not uncommon to see glass makers sell glass from colleagues. Last time I was in Milano I found a JZB figurine with Barovier stickers!

HI:

Royal Sweden Crystal was a company created by the Swedish government which dumped a lot of money into the venture started in 1974. It went bankrupt in 1977. The goal was to save a group of individual companys from going bankrupt.

It was combination of Målerås, Flygsfors, Skruf glass works. I think one additional company which I cannot remember.

In the true Swedish management style, it was run by a committee and we all know what happens when the senior officers of each company were trying to set up a business plan for the combination.

The crystal of the glass works was issued under the Royal Sweden Crystal label.

I hope we're not getting Royal Sweden and Royal Krona (which included Björkshult as number 4) mixed up ?

Hi,

I have deleted 2 pictures to avoid confusion. I had 2 pictures illustrating pages from the 1980's catalogue.
These objects are not labeled Royal Sweden Crystal.  A couple of them are labeled FM Art Crystal.

Please disregard these 2 pictures in this discussion, these were just illustrations in general from the catalogue.

regards,
Ingela

I think Ivo was right and boy I am confused this Wednesday.

May the group accept my apologies.

Hi Ivo,

I too think this was a passing phase. I have never seen this label on any objects and I now have over 50 FM objects in my collection. I have followed eBay and the Swedish auction site Tradera for some time now and I have never been able to find a listing with 'Royal Sweden Crystal'.
I know that labels get worn, are removed ..... but surely some labels survive over the years?

Thanks for the info on your catalogues!

Ingela, I would be interested to hear what you think of Tradera, so I have started a new thread in the cafe, I look forward to speaking to you there.

Just out of interest - my FM Konstglas owl.  He's a bit of a bruiser.
