Title: Davidson Glass Q's

Hi all.  My first time here. I was  sent here by one of the glassies at the Glass Chat board.

I hope you nice folks can tell me if this piece is Davidson's Lords and Ladies  or not.

I'm confused because my book shows the rayed star in the center as having 8 points. The one in the pics has only 6.  Is this only a variation to make the pattern fit better or is it something else entirely.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi,
       Does the salver have a registered design number on it (285342)? Normally articles in this pattern do have the design number stamped on the piece – sometimes it can be difficult to find. Incidentally Davidson called this the 1897 suite.

A couple of companies made this pattern as well including Fenner (the Amanda suite) and also Notsjo.

Chris is right, but I do not fully agree to Amanda of Fenne: as you may see here the rays of Amanda are more like a wheatsheef pointing to the rim and 'away' from the centre of the base:

I take this opportunity to thank you for your question, I  had to realize that the following is misplaced on my webpage:  :-*

Another difference imho are the lines between the 16 diamonds: Davidson's and Kamenz?' are slightly curved whereas Fenne's are straight and parallel.

Do you mean 8?

I think this will depend on the object. The most common flint example of this pattern made by Davidson is a boat shaped posy.  The lines on this are straight as the sides are flat.

Hi Chris, I only count 7, no. 8 and 9 for me are the outer lines of the diamonds' field  :)
the ray in the middle has sometimes disappeared because of the mould line, see the blue ?Kamenz?:

Hi Sid, so Notsjö is similar to the Fenne Amanda pattern - jmho  :)

Hello again.

  First let me give my thanks to you all for your time and help. Aswell as excuse myself for taking so long to reply. Despite our best wishes, life tends to change things.
  First things first.  Chris,  This piece is from an auction I wished to bid on. I just saw it and my eyes lit up. I can't explain it better than that. No number was given in the listing, nor was one shown in the photos.

Sid, Thank you so much.

 You have all given me so much info that it is hard to digest it all.
I had no idea that three...make that four companies made pieces that are so much alike. Very close inspection is required to tell them apart, let alone know whitch belongs with whom.
 
 Thank you all for giving me so much to look at and so many places to look in hopes of learning more.  I can see now that I need more books and study before heading in this direction. You nice folks can't do it for me.

Hi Guys
I have three pieces of the1897 suite Rd No 285342 in my Davidson collection.These are the boat shaped dish which Chris has mentioned, the colours are blue amber and flint.

I have placed 3 photos in a new album titled Davidson Rd No 285342 of my blue one.
