Post by: Andy on January 02, 2007, 04:00:50 PM
Hi,
this nice vase is coming up at auction in next few days, estimate 30-50
Does anyone know maker, and if that sounds good value?
Marked to base 'made in Czech oslovakia'  The pattern is of Roses.

There is another without photos, lalique style, opalescent glass, prob Czech, but could
be french or english.circa 1930s no markings that i could find.
a flatter round bowl, i think the pattern is lily of the Valley
Any ideas?

Cheers all,
Andy

It's Barolac (Inwald). This pattern has been made more recently too....quite a controversial item. I am sure you'll get more comments, info and help.

There is an eBay seller from Prague who is selling modern Lalique look alikes. They are advertised under the Lalique pages, but are modern inspired copies of the style. They are well photographed and although correctly marked in size, look very impressive in photos. I bought a tiny 19cm vase. Yes it is exactly what it says it is...she even says Lalique inspired in the explanation, but with postage and exchange rate...cash only no paypal or credit card for nearly £40, I reckon it is worth less than half!
So beware! Read every letter on the advert carefully,I had to send cash Western Union and would not buy there again. Artdecogallery ( she has a shop page and other names! Caveat Emptor...and anothe buyer did warn me but I ignored him being carried away by the superb photo large scale!

Catalogue number for this shape is 11280B (the B suffix indicating the flanged rim). A similar vase is shown in my gallery here: http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-810

As to whether it is good value or not, I couldn't say. I paid £40.00 for my example in a local auction.

It seems like a reasonable price to me Steven, and yours is much nicer than my very similar one which is just plain frosted (with a lot of dull patches!)  - Nice photo btw!   :)
