Title: Orrefors lamp base - RD 1566 - Carl Fagerlund
Post by: inca on January 08, 2007, 12:33:59 AM
Hi,

A friend of mine surprised me with an Orrefors lamp base as a Christmas
present!

Please see http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/thumbnails.php?album=296 for
pictures of the lamp base.

I have found out the following:
- It is designed by Carl Fagerlund (at Orrefors from 1946 to 1980)
- signed to base: Orrefors RD 1566
- R stands for Carl Fagerlund. What does D stand for? Lamp?
- this type of paper label on the lamp has been in use from
1960

Can anyone tell me more about this lamp? When it was made? Any information
is welcome! Thanks!

I need to buy a lamp shade. I wonder if anyone know what type/shape of lamp
shade was used originally. It would be lovely to be able to find a lamp
shade as close to the original as possible.

Thanks in advance!

regards,
Ingela

RD stands for Carl Fagerlund, because CF was not available, but RD was.

(Not confirmed in any way, just a guess, that RD means Royal Design, because Carls mother worked for the old swedish king at their summer house Solliden, Ă–land.)

According to Ivo's little book (Glass Fact File A-Z)  The R stands for Fagerlund and the D stands for lighting.

Hi,

Thank you for your replies.

Frank - Thanks for the info. Regarding the lamp shade, I was thinking along those lines myself.  ;)

Raoul - Thanks! Not a bad guess! However, I went to the library today and read in one book about Orrefors that R stands for Fagerlund and D for lighting.

I also found one site "decoding Orrefors Glass".

Connie - Thanks! Ivo's little book is spot on!

Wondering also about the proportions? How large should the lamp shade be compared to the base?

regards,
Ingela

Hi Ingela, the website above and the book are both authored by the same person: our very own Ivo Haanstra who you may well encounter on the board someplace. ;)
