Title: A 16" tall art glass swan.
Post by: Piper on January 11, 2007, 01:30:34 AM
Hi everyone!! I love this site so much, I can't resist coming back. do you mind helping me ID and date this handsome swan?

Back in the day before garbage pick up people used to dispose of their garbage and unwanted items by burning it in a "burning pile". When we bought our current home several years ago we had to clean up one of these burn piles and that's where I found this swan. It was laying half buried in the debris filthy, but unharmed for me to discover. It shined up like a new penny so I named it Phoenix and kept it :)

Anyway this swan is about 16" tall. It is bottle blue glass ran through with brown and tan "slag".  There are tiny air bubbles all through the clear portions. it has a huge, rough pontil on bottom with no marks or numbers that I can find.  It has what appears to be "Cigarette/cigar" rests on each side of the body. But I don't think it's an ashtray. And lastly, the eys are blue and white. I've never found another quite like it. Any information you guys can provide would really be appreciated.

Hi Piper - so sorry I don't have any information for you on your swan but I just wanted to say what an incredible thing to find in the middle of a bonfire!  How amazing it was unscathed - it was clearly destined to become yours.  Hopefully someone will have some info for you, regards, Pip.
