Title: English Carnival thistle vase
Post by: chuggy on January 29, 2007, 03:02:40 PM
One for Glen here, whilst clearing out boxes from the loft I've found a 6" carnival glass thistle vase which I'm sure from memory is English and I think Sowerby. Could you confirm this for me.
Thanks
Paul

If it's the one I think it is (no pic yet) then it was made by the Canning Town Glass Company. The mould for it was discovered by a (sadly now deceased) Carnival collector who used to work there. He gave the mould to Broadfield House.

The little vases are fairly common in marigold, but scarce as hen's teeth in smokey blue.

Heres a piccy Glen, not a blue one I'm afraid though.

And any of them would fit right into my Scottish kitsch collection admirably  ;)  ;D
