I was wondering if anyone would have any ideas about the following vase.
http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-4794
The interior of the vase is a milky white (cased) and on the bottom there seems to be a rather rough pontil(?) mark. I'm hoping it could be Italian, but could very likely be Chinese.

Sorry Lyn that is as Chinese as it gets....

Ugh! Off to the recycle centre it goes. Thanks for that :D

Aw, poor vase. At least try and push it onto some unwitting relative first! Or a charity shop. ;D
I imagine that many years ago in Ye Olde Glass Message Classified Advertisements there were similar questions...
"Is this 18th Century Venetian?"
"No, it's just a modern Powell reproduction. The chap with the factory in Whitefriars."
"Euch, off to the Victorian bottle dump with it, then."
;)

Nic — Thanks for making me laugh.

He he he ;D In all honesty I don't think I could look at it for that long. The colours aren't really my thing. I got it from the op shop in a pathetic attempt at discovering something 'special'. Not that I have any idea what that something might be mind you. Oh, I have a lot of learning to do :-[ :)

Lyn, I think that's exactly how all of us learn. Everyone knows about my 'shed of horror' where all my glass learning curve is...it's only been in the last couple of years that I've been making better buys. It's taken me about 8 years to get to that point. Slow learner here! ;) ;D
PS: Great post Nic! :D

I'm still buying strange items (mainly paperweights) and then finding they are Chinese...
I now have a large supply of about 100 Chinese paperweights nobody wants (including me).
I am thinking about making a rather racy rock garden.

My early learner purchases are locked away in an attic room, out of plain sight... it's all very Charlotte Bronte.
