Hi, I am a button collector :) not a glass collector. I inherited some things from my grandmother and would love to know where these are from, how old... or at least what to call them as I search for info. The first are a set of 4 glasses - I believe cordials.

They came with some cool looking picks, I assume for garnishes

I also have some interesting goblets - this one has nicks in the base but some are perfect and I also have matching dessert dishes. I love the shape and cut-out in the stem.

Thanks for your help!!!!

I believe your Cordials and your olive picks are Bimini.
No idea about the glasses but they would be from the same period ca. 1925-1935.

Agree with Ivo about the first pieces.
They look to be Bimini.

I believe your goblet is "Art Moderne" by Morgantown glass circa 1930's. Terry

Bimini was my first thought for the cordials as well, but I didn't want to say before someone more familiar with their range came along. What fantastic pieces of glass they are!

Thanks for the help! I was fascinated to learn a little more as these appear to be made by the same "Bimini" that later (in the '40's?) made pressed glass buttons that I am familiar with, also know as Bimini, although there are no similarities in style. The buttons are heavy and not my favorite glass. Intersting that he went from the delicate blown glass in Austria to the pressed buttons when he fled Austria for England. I prefer older Czech glass and paperweight buttons, which to me are much prettier (but with a less intersting story I suppose!)
Also thanks for identifying the goblets - not as unusual, but still very cool.
I appreciate your help!!!!

Now that could be interesting, we have had a couple of people interested in collecting buttons but no one here new much... perhaps you can tell us some basics in a new thread?

Hi Holly,
Welcome!!! Your glasses are gorgeous - I love the picks. I have some glass buttons and also some early plastic and (I think) bakelite too so I wanted to echo the request for help on buttons. Have you come across any sites for buttons like this one for glass?
Thank you

Hi Holly,
Im just reading a glass book by Leslie Pina, called circa Fifties glass, and the exact same cordial
glasses are pictured, Bimini, 3 3/8" tall, $40-60 each. No dates mentioned, so could well be a few
years earlier than the 50s. I would add photo, but not sure about copyright!

Andy,

Thank you for your considerate approach. Such posts would cause the board enormous problems. The fact that you have thought about possible ramifications is, I am sure, appreciated by committee and moderators alike.

Marcus

Hi, thanks Andy, for the info from the book and prices. I'm glad I'm learning about them - I won't be tempted to use them casually now! Were the picks mentioned in the book? I'm lucky enough to have them in 6 different colors and they are perfect. I wish I could find an interesting (and safe...) way to display them.
thanks again!
