I picked up this matching vase and ashtray set yesterday. These are sold as "Poli" (although clearly not) on eBay, but I'm wondering who made them. I'm assuming they are early 1970s vintage. For fun and comparison, see last photo of two Stromberg pieces from my collection (the larger one is signed).

V.Nason are known to produce similar 'single sommerso' vases. I have a couple with a smoked core, measuring 15.5cm (a tad over 6")

Here's an optimised photo. The label can be seen on the left side:

Thanks David. Your Nason is a dead ringer for my pieces. What is the vintage of pieces with that plastic label? Contemporary or 1980s? Interestingly, I found the same piece while trolling eBay just now, with a Mandruzzato label.

I reckon these plastic labels are probably mid-1980s onwards. There is also a circular one that appears to be the last ones used, but I'm sure they would have come after the paper ones.
Mandruzzato - that's the name I couldn't remember! They are still in production: http://www.mandruzzato.ve.it/ but I wonder whether there is some link between Nason and Madruzzato due to the similarities. V.Nason closed c.2000.

Thanks again, David. Within the link you posted, the identical pieces (vase and ashtray) are depicted here, in different color. Just goes to show, distinguishing the old from new at times can be nearly impossible. It is evident that they've really maintained their tradition of craft in Murano, although they're not terribly imaginative in producing these "retro" pieces.

They seem to be producing double sommerso as well as the single (click on the colour chart to the far right of each description in the price list). And they are certainly not at the cheap end of the market.
