Title: Scandinavian, Bohemian, Italian?, green yellow vase with kingfisher

Me again, just about to get the hoover out, and then spotted this on the shelf that i havent
popped on here yet!
Its 10inches tall, yellow with light green'wings' its got a nice engraving of a Kingfisher on the
front, with artists initials, i think JH
I havent tried it under black light, must get one.
my instinct tells me Bohemian, anyone know better?

Reminds me of some Caithness glass.....but not being a Caithness expert, Id wait for someone more knowledgeable to come along. Emmi

thats one i hadnt considered, I dont think its Caithness, but again , im no expert either,
maybe someone could just confirm yes or no on Jolly Scotland?

Bumping this one up, tried with UV , possibly a little reaction just on inside of bowl,
but may be my imagination ???
I still think probably Czech, and im sure initials on etching of bird are JH,
Anyone ??? ???

If it only has a little reaction, it does not contain uranium. Uranium gives a bright green reaction. Sometimes it's 'louder' than other times, but always bright green. With a pencil beam you can actually see the rays of light in the glass, which you can't see with other reactions to UV

Ive just tried again in a dark loo, theres something there, I couldnt call it bright green,
but the light 'refracts' ( i think thats the word) on the 'turquoise green' sides to give a
slight opaque olivey green :-\
Im certainly no expert, but i think theres something there.

I presume one can display uranium glass in a cabinet with a UV light and it must look
amazing, or do you have to be careful with the UV ??? and if so, is there any other reason
for the Uranium(apart from display purposes) ??? ???

If you only think there's something there it's not uranium, more likely to be manganese, which gives a dull greenish orange glow. Yes a cabinet full of uranium glass looks fabulous under UV. Dave (mrvaselineglass) had posted some lovely photos on here but I can't find them. www.vaselineglass.org/ (http://www.vaselineglass.org/) Have a look here though but remember he's mainly interested in canary yellow uranium glass. Andy if you look at this pic there's a blacklight cabinet at the back with some uranium glass in it. That's the effect you get... it GLOWS!   ;D

I think the model is from Zelezni Brod & the colour looks like their citrine...

It occured to me that perhaps this vase was bought as a 'blank' and engraved somewhere else, which might explain (to my eyes) the conflict of engraving and vase.

Thanks Ivo.  The kingfisher just didn't 'feel' right to me, it still looks odd to me somehow, maybe it's the subject matter.  I bow to your greater experience of course as my opinion was only a gut-feel.    ;) :-*
