Title: 1889 Paris Exposition Liquor Set
Post by: Ohio on February 27, 2007, 05:42:08 AM
I picked up a small liquor set from the 1889 Paris Expostion. This is probably an impossible question to answer, however opinions are appreciated. My question is the possible country of manufacture, French?, English?, Bohemian?. The small cups with the reeeded handles are only 1 1/2" X 1 1/2" & the small decanter is 7" in height. All pieces have very small ground pontils as the pieces are blown. Thanks, Ken

It's lovely. I always think Harrach when I see blue and amber like that - but I could be way off.

I have no doubt this set has been made by Portieux who have been using this colour combination since napoleontic times and are still making it today.

Would there have been more cups rather than two shown originally?

Yes it seems there would have been six - one from each wire loop provided.

Just replying to say thanks for looking & the comments. Yes there should be six (6) of the tiny cordials? & I debated whether or not to pick this up because of the missing cordials?....then I thought when would I ever run across anything like this again & figured after 118 years that it might be acceptable since there were two left. If it only been one left I doubt if I would have picked it up. IVO thanks for the Portieux attribution, Andy...hate to break it to you, but I'm a month short of age 61...I've got a ways to go to reach your speculation. Ken
