Glass / Victorian vase with engraved 'signature'
« Last post by glassobsessed on April 22, 2025, 10:39:30 AM »
Assuming this small vase is Victorian in date, not quite a signature maybe more a series of numbers. It is 12.5cm tall, wide polished pontil mark, very tactile, super quality and surprisingly to me not a hint of uranium when tested.

Interesting because we see so little engraved from the era, the first line appears straightforward enough 3285 but the second could read as 904 or GOLL, third line is 0/-

Drawn a blank so far, anyone seen similar?

Yes, see what you mean re Chris Commins not seen that, just not his typical use of colour. Can you point to a bit of Shaks Fireworks? This does not have the heft I tend to associate with Will Shakspeare's work though.

Glass / Green/grey footed vase
« Last post by Keith Mick on April 21, 2025, 07:27:20 PM »
Hi.
Can anyone steer me in the right direction IDing this vase. Don't think it has any great age there's not that much wear. It's 18 cm high and seems to be a three piece fairly fine construction. It was the shape which I found attractive with thistle head bowl on a short stem and wide flatish foot. Could be from a home decor type store but so far I've drawn a blank searching.
Cheers
Keith

Glass / Re: Crackle glass flower vase ?

That crackle really reminds me of Karcag glass - Hungarian.  I does look like the technique they used.

However not sure about the shape - specifically the rim because most of their designs are actually quite contemporary and funky and that rim doesn't sit in well with the body of their work.  But ... you never know :)

Yes - I was going through it thinking they NEED a good glass researcher/curator  :)

Shaks finishes the base of all his pieces like that.
It reminds me slightly of his fireworks pieces maybe?
Not known for his organic shapes like that though.

Reminds me more organic shapewise of Chris Comins.  But not sure about decor and colour.

It's gorgeous btw!

Chris Thornton a possibility for this one, both form and decoration fit.

 ;D
I'm not very good at this "spot the difference" game, and the photos are from different angles. But the serration on the wings of yours to show the feathers is rather a major difference.
The number of colours used is different, and I think yours are rather better executed, with fades.
These are differences of design, rather than a bit of variation on how something worked out.
Both are rather wonderful ducks. Quite high end, in my opinion.  :)
