297041 is the jug. 297042 is an unrelated sweetmeat from Sowerby.

British & Irish Glass / Sowerby frosted cream jug
« Last post by Keith Mick on April 14, 2025, 08:46:40 PM »
Hi, I came across this cute little cream jug in a charity shop and bought it to try tracing the maker from the registration design lozenge. If I'm reading it correctly the design was registered on the 17th December 1875 by Sowerby and given the reg no.297041-2. Am I correct in thinking that 41-2 at the end means two items were registered, perhaps cream jug and sugar bowl?
I've found what seems to be the matching sugar bowl in the 1885 catalogue but the cream jug is not there, perhaps already dropped from production.
Looking through later Sowerby catalogues it seems items with this type of attached feet were falling out of fashion around this time.
Interestingly I came across an article that says a copy of this jug was made by an American firm in the second half of the 20th century.
Thought this might be of interest.
Cheers

Glass Paperweights / Looks Like Mdina, But Signed NBK?
« Last post by Clive on April 14, 2025, 08:44:09 PM »
Large 10cm paperweight looks like the classic Sea and Sand pattern - but it's signed with what looks like NBK. Does anybody have any idea who this is by and where? As always I'm eternally grateful to those who know stuff!
Thanks.

Glass / Re: Textured surface vase

Does it bite? :) (apologies  8) )
It does not look quite like Matthey crinkles does it?
I wonder if the effect could have been produced by a technique that was used in the Wedgwood lustred enamel ceramic wares known as "souffle" in the early parts of the 20th century
The very finely powdered enamel was "puffed" through a muslin cloth onto the surface, to give a dispersed effect to the colours when subsequently heated.

Glass / Textured surface vase

A recent purchase that caught my eye. Don't know quite what to say about this vase. The outer surface is covered with what seems like a fine raised texture.
it has a height of 162mm and is 152mm at the top.
Any comments gratefully accepted.

Scandinavian Glass / Re: Pukeberg glass square bottle/carafe

Hi Nevb.
Have spotted the bottle in the 1966 catalogue. Shorter stumpy version of mine. I assume they were made over a long period and apparently different case colours where used.
Thanks for the info,
Cheers
