hmmm, that's something to think on.  If Murano canes were shared so widely (I think that's right?) but not in places where the glass used for encasing was incompatible I mean.

10 inches across and only 2 high, lots of tiny bubbles with a polished pontil mark, Nazeing was my first thought  but probably not, haven't seen this type of glass for a while, must have something similar somewhere.

Another vase here in the same base colour and shape as the op's vase with the same decoration. Sold February 2025.
It was sold as 'Auguste Jean' but as far as I can see there is no reference to it being signed or having a mark.

See page 12 and onto page 13 here for a small amount of information on Auguste Jean.  It mentions that he may have hired a bench at Clichy .

The Art of Glass - Victor Arwas

Janine Bloch-Dermant in The Art of French Glass says ' Most of Auguste Jean's known pieces are in Paris at the Conservatoire des Arts et Metiers. Usually they are signed'.

Glass / 18th century baluster gin or small wine
« Last post by markhig62 on September 17, 2025, 06:46:12 PM »
Hi - I wonder if anyone can help me to confirm what I think this glass is. It appears to be English c1730 with a bell bowl with solid base above an annular knop, an almost hollow inverted baluster and a small basal knop. The foot is folded and there is a snapped pontil mark. There are all of the expected tooling marks, although the foot rim wear is rather light. With the basic IR light that I have, it appears to have some lead content, although the glass is lighter (86g) than I would expect from lead glass. The metal also contains quite a lot of tiny air bubbles which can, I believe, be indicative of soda metal, but not necessarily. The glass is 14.2cm tall, the bowl is 5.8cm diameter and the foot is 6.7cm. I am a little unsure because the glass is small compared with similar glasses that I have seen and because of the quality of the metal.
Any help, comments, ideas, etc much appreciated.

Think that was the reason.
