Pink and clear "vidermeyer"?
« on: July 09, 2005, 12:22:48 AM »
I have a large decantor my aunt says is "vidermeyer glass"?  I have not found anything matching so far--figured someone here might know.
Thanks
Bit

A picture would be useful - but failing that, do you think it could be Biedermeier rather than Vidermeyer?
A bit of a shot in the dark I know - but does it look anything like this glass?

I have no idea whether the glass shown is authentic Biedermeier or not - just thought Beidermeier and Vidermeyer sound almost the same.
I'm probably digging myself into a great hole of ignorance here.

:D As far as I know, B's and V's are sort of interchangable in Russian, and I'd agree with you that this is a likely error    ! I've got a few nice oil-lamps to bring in a little more light!
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

Good Morning,
Biedermeier Glass generally refers to glass produced in Bavaria/Bohemia during the time period of 1830-1880 plus or minus. An article on the glass of this era can be found at: http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abu/y205/m04/abu0140/s06

I can assure you that the various pieces of Biedermeier glass shown on my site, http://www.rubyglass.com/Glass/ArtGlass/Index.asp , are authentic, and in some cases dated on the piece by engraving or cutting.

Enjoy the beautiful pieces of intricate glass that is over 150 years old.

Please forgive me. I didn't mean to cast aspersions on your site or your glass (which is beautiful). I'm sorry if it sounded that way.    I meant I'm totally ignorant about the area. Thank you for the link.

Jo,

Please accept my apologies if I sounded "gruff" in my response to your posting. There was no offense taken at all, and I was merely attempting to enlighten. I try to educate about glass wherever and whenever possible. Many have helped me in the past, and continue to do so, in my knowledge of different glass manufacturers and patterns, and because of this I try to help as much as I can.
Also on my website is a section dealing with an American glass pattern, Candlewick, which was produced by The Imperial Glass Company of Bellaire, Ohio. The company ceased operations in the early 1980's and there is a bit of confusion as to their stemware identification. I posted the website about 5 years ago in order to help clarify identification of that pattern. About 1000 visitors per month use that portion of my site to verify their ID of their collection. To view this portion go to my home page, http://www.rubyglass.com/ and scroll down to the "Candlewick Reference Pages"
Again, Dear Jo, please don't fret about my interpreting your thoughts as being malicious or casting dispersions in any manner.
I too would like to see pictures of the decanter to which Bit originally referred.
