A horse chestnut shaped vase....any ideas of age or maker?
« on: March 31, 2010, 10:28:25 AM »
Hi guys,

This was found in an antique shop a good few years ago and was quite expensive. I have no idea about who the maker is, the country of origin or the age as it is not stamped. Has anyone got any ideas?

It appears to be hand blown in thick green or turquoise glass. The bowl of the vase sits on fixed rosette shaped base. The spikes of the horse chestnut have been pulled out of the body during the making, rather than being added later.

I have tried to think what else it resembles but can only think of a horse chestnut, sea urchin or sea mine!!

Please Help!!!

Intriguing but I can't see it very clearly.

Try taking a few more photos against a white background (a couple of sheets of paper usuall work). Getting the object in focus also helps, if your camera won't focus on it close up, move a little further away until it does. Then you can crop the bits of the photo around your subject. Many cameras also have a macro function (for close up photos), look for a button marked with a small flower icon.
