Topic: Studio glass vase - cased perhaps - help needed

I am totally out of my comfort zone with this fabulous vase. I am hoping someone can help to give me a little information on this impressive item. It belongs to a friend of mine - bought at auction very recently. It was described as an "ovoid cased vase" and that's about all we know. I can't find any kind of signature or similar. The glass does appear to be cased. the colours are fabulous and I can see air bubbles here and there. It's a massive heavy piece of glass, standing about 14 or 15 inches high (35 to 40 cm). Does anyone know the country of manufacture? Anything at all in fact?

My friend bought a large jug in the same auction which appears to be from the same maker. It's also cased. I'll post photos of the jug in a separate thread.

Large and bright seem to be features of much Chinese glass, which is OK as long as they are well put together and don't look like something that is supposed to be smaller and more delicate. Sometimes the proportions are just all wrong.

I think it depends what the piece is bought for, doesn't it? My friends aren't glass collectors. They just saw a couple of pieces at a local auction and felt that they would look great in their living room etc.  And they do! That vase is a real eye catcher, because of its massive size and vibrant colours.

I agree completely Glen. They might not be top quality work, but if you see one you like, which suits your purpose, many of them are quite fabulous.

Be sure to tell your neighbours that Chinese does not mean cheap and nasty any more.  :thup:
