Chippendale compote/comport or lookalike?
« on: May 17, 2010, 04:45:43 PM »

Click image for glassgallery — size, weight, another view, and enlargements.

It's big, it glows like crazy in sunshine and under blacklight, and it has some age with plenty of wear on the base.   Note the lip-like rim that stops it slipping out of your fingers if you pick it up by the rim.

So, what is it?   American or British Chippendale, or a lookalike?

Enlightenment — maker, pattern No, dates, &c. sought please.

Thanks for your interest,

Bernard C.  8)

None of my Chippendale trophy-handled pieces has that star foot Bernard, they are all plain footed, so my feeling is not Chippendale but I might be wrong!

Anne — Thanks.   I could be wrong, but I recall Chippendale, perhaps Krys-Tol, with the base star in the shape of a deeply swagged six-pointed star as well as starless.    Also my recollection is of handles higher than the rim.

In flat-based pieces yes Bernard, but none of mine have a star on a footed base like yours. (Sorry, I just re-read my earlier reply and realise it wasn't obvious I meant just the footed versions not the flat ones as well.  :-[)
