Fascinating.
Beautifully made piece.
Thoughts and observations:-
It has the correct proportions and dimensions of some early cylinder vases.
The crackle effect in the white-ish stuff inside the walls of the vessel is very similar to a crackle effect in enamels in some of Boffo's MDG pieces.
The way the strapping is marvered flat into the walls of the vessel at the base, but higher up, the piece has been worked to give the appearance of the strapping pulling the walls of the vessel in, but making them bulge a little, is a technique used by Tim Harris at IoWSG.
The overall design would strongly suggest that early-mid-'70s Mdina was the inspiration or basis of design for this piece - but it is a vastly superior, and possibly very unusual interpretation.
Wild speculations:-
Joseph Said's daughter, Olivia, is a true masterglassmaker and wonderful artist - and she does make one-off pieces......
