is this an Isle of Wight Glass Studio vase or another?
« on: April 08, 2013, 11:04:40 AM »
This is a lovely bowl/vase.  I collect Isle of Wight Studio glass and this looks very much like the ribbon pattern.  It measures approximately 5" high and 3 1/2" across the rim.  Very heavy glass and irridescent - gold yellow with maroon purple ribbons.
clear base with a signature I can't read but looks like P. Ancey. or similar. Not Timothy Harris!
Which makes me wonder if it is another studio?
Hope someone knows.
Mandi

Would you please try rubbing a little talcum powder over the mark and then removing it with your thumb, so the powder sticks in the indents and shows the mark up better?  :)

have put some talc on signature as suggested. See photo.
I don't think it reads Phoenician though

Could it read C. Lucas? - for Chris Lucas? He did train at IoWSG for a while - before setting up Alum Bay - but he's not there any more, I think he may be working on his own elsewhere?

That is great - have looked at the signature and it does look like C.Lucas which would make sense as it looks to be an Isle of Wight design.
Thanks

It looks more like a variation of an IoWSG design - the flange is wider than IoWSG and it's not a prescribed colourway. I would think it was made by Chris Lucas, but somewhere else other than IoWSG.
