Cased UFO?? shaped vase
« on: August 03, 2014, 05:50:46 PM »
Any ideas please on this heavy 8inch tall vase. Colour fluctuates between grey and lilac depending on light. Polished out pontil mark to base which shows some wear related marks. All suggestions appreciated John

Could this be Scandinavian, perhaps?

Looks similar to designs by Mona Morales Schildt for Kosta. No faint Kosta signature?

or Tamara Aladin circa 1970?  http://www.retrostart.com/designer/tamara-aladin/  - the top is slightly different, as is the bottom but it seems to be related in shape at least.

It does look very similar but the bases are moulded (and occasionally carry an acid etched Riihimaen panther logo) - it was the polished pontil mark that had me leaning towards Kosta.

Having looked at some examples of Mona Morales Schildt's work there seems a definite similarity in the thick rounded rims of these vases.
