Gold rimmed glass, please help
« on: August 17, 2015, 07:43:27 PM »
Can anybody help identify the set that this glass comes from? And possibly how much the set would cost? Or a replacement single glass?

It comes from a set of 6 cups and a jug... We have the rest of the set but one glass has been damaged by irresponsible removal men and despite the fact it's an extremely sentimental set, we need to price for a replacement!

Thanks very much for your help in advance!!!!!

the colour of the glass and positioning and patterning of gilt banding would suggest that this set is possibly from the 1950's - 60's, and from the Czechoslovakian Borske Sklo factory  -  they produced masses of similar gilt decorated decanters, jugs, glasses etc. and this is typical of their wares.
Can't guarantee this provenance is accurate, but quite likely.
In view of the potential age I'd suggest very unlikely that you'll find a replacement for any of the pieces, and unfortunately it's impossible to value sentiment  -  these sets were inexpensive even when new.

just cherish the remainder, and don't move house again ;)

I agree with most of what Paul has said. Your set may also be Romanian. You may find a replacement by diligently scouring ebay and etsy sellers but I suspect even the sentimental value might have worn off before you find something
Here are some similar (vaguely) sold sets to give you an idea of prices decanter and glasses and jug and glasses, another jug and glasses
