4 inches tall, marked to the base and with a Sheffield hallmark on the rim for 1989, can't see why someone would go to the trouble of adding a silver rim to what would have been a relatively cheap vase at that time. There are no cracks or damage to be seen or felt inside so was it a one off or short lived production ?

Given the muted stone-like tones and the shape of this particular vase, perhaps somebody chose it to be finished off in silver metal to make a funerary urn from it?
I can't think of any other reason.

Spooners need metal rims and are abt. 4" tall.

Has a fancy beaded rim and seems a bit small for an urn, unless it was for your hamster ?
What's a spooner ? the other vases I have in this shape are the same size,

Spooners are small vases for keeping tea spoons. There are hundreds of different shapes esp. In pressed glass. What we have on the continent is usually the shape of yours, with a silver edge to protect the rim. Tea spoons are smaller on the continent.

I wasn't paying attention to the size and Ivo's suggestion seems much more likely.
I've never heard of spooners myself, but given I live with a tea-jenny, I am thinking I could really do with a few.
How practical!

But they'd have to be the right size for uk-ish teaspoons. 
They're the only ones which are the right size for measuring the tealeaves.
