Purple marbled slag glass beaker. ID = Henry Greener
« on: April 12, 2017, 01:04:25 PM »
I have this small purple beaker with a mark to base which I don't recognise and hoped someone else may do. It appears to be a rather elaborate letter X.
All thoughts and suggestions much appreciated, John

Hi John,

Looks like a faint Sowerby peacock mark.

Hi Greg, I can't see the peacock although there is a slight resemblance, I have attached some more photos which I am hoping are a bit clearer from different angles

Hi John,

Thanks for the additional photos, they are much clearer.

I thought it may be a poor quality pressing of the Davidson lion, however, the Henry Greener first lion trademark, perhaps looks like a better bet!

Thanks very much for your help. I am guessing that this is the early mark?

Looking at Raymond Slack's book, the first Henry Greener trademark (a demi-lion rampant facing left holding a five pointed star in it's right paw) was used between 1875-85.
