Whitefriars spirally ribbed bowl
« on: July 03, 2021, 10:33:21 AM »
This is a large green glass spirally ribbed bowl. The bowl is round, measuring 30 cm (12 inches) in diameter at the rim.   The bowl is in green glass and is decorated with spiral ribbing to the underside. It sits on a small conical foot that measures 10.8 cm (4.3 inches) in diameter.  The bowl is 8 cm (3.2 inches) in height.  There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.  There is wear to the base of the foot and a very neat polished out pontil mark. Lead glass.  It weighs in at 1.86 kg. (~ 4 lb.)

No need for the question mark - it's 100% Whitefriars.

Thank you Ian, much appreciated.  Is it a 1930s Tom Hill piece do you know, or is it later?  Thanks once again, Neil

Hi Neil,

Yes, Tom Hill, but they are difficult to date precisely as they were made for a few years. And I can't quite tell from the photos if yours is Emerald green which was only made in the 30's, or Sea Green which was made longer.
All the best
Ian
